Winterizing Your Vehicle Makes for a Safer Winter

Winter driving came early for us in Denver, but it’s not too late to winterize your car for the months ahead. Start with checking your battery, oil and coolant levels since they have different needs during the winter. There is nothing worse than a dead battery on a cold day. Replace your battery if it is more than three years old. Making sure all of your hoses and belts are secured is next. Test your brakes and inspect your brake pads to make sure that they are in working condition.

Visibility becomes a big hazard during the winter. Be sure to replace your windshield wipers if they are over a year old. Carry extra windshield wiper fluid with you, the de-icer sprayed on the roads tend to stick to your windshield making it difficult to see.

Making sure you have the right tire on your car is very important. Purchasing a set of snow tires reduces the wear on your performance tires and are much safer on the slick roads. Be sure that your tread and sidewalls are not worn.

Putting together an emergency kit for your car is easy to do! Be sure to include the following:

  • Ice Scraper/Shovel
  • A flashlight
  • Jumper Cables
  • Engine oil
  • Boots/Gloves
  • A Survival Kit that includes bottled water, non-perishable food, hard candy, first aid kit,
    blankets & matches

Refer to your manual for your car’s requirements for a tune-up and schedule a visit to Mancinelli’s to get your car ready for the Colorado winter!
