Read what Fox31 and Steve Mancinelli have to say about driving in the winter. For the direct link, click here. DENVER -- Driving in the snow is challenging for anyone. Especially for the thousands of newcomers to Colorado, some of whom will be driving in heavy snow for the first time. Experts say it starts with tires. Colorado traction laws require drivers to replace worn-out tires for snow driving. Try the penny test to see if tread is good. Lincoln's head should be partially covered with tread. Also, tires lose pressure more easily in the cold. "Having proper tread so that depending on what the surface is, you get decent grip and traction in the snow is pretty crucial," said Steve Mancinelli with Mancinelli's Auto Repair. Batteries should also be checked so drivers don't get stranded. And if coolant is low, turning on the heat will only result in co ... read more

You can always rely on Mancinelli’s to get your car through a Colorado winter when you prepare with winter maintenance, but you might need a few reminders when the snow and ice hits. Make Sure You Can See and Be Seen Your windshield wipers should probably be replaced with a winter or all season driving blade and your windshield should be cleaned on the inside. Keeping an extra bottle of wiper fluid during the snowy months is also a great idea. Defroster effectiveness is essential in the initial clearing of snow and ice from your windshield and should be checked well in advance of when you will need to use it. Your headlights need to be clean or even restored so you can see and be seen during those snowy nights. Tire Tread If your tread is getting low, your capability to drive on a slippery wet road will put you out of control. When in doubt, get new tires and make sure your trac ... read more

Brakes are necessary to stop your vehicle safely while driving. Neglecting your brakes can often lead to costly repairs. An inspection is the easiest way to see the condition of your pads, linings and rotors. Even if your dashboard monitor isn’t working, you should be able to identify poor braking warning signs. Squeals and squeaks are obvious trouble signs but if your car is pulling to one side or you need to increase the amount of pressure to come to a stop, there could be additional problems. A brake that is too sensitive can also be a problem since your pads are likely to degrade quicker. Additional symptoms are pulsations in the brake pedal and a shaky steering wheel. Recognizing these problems before they become serious is key to cost-efficient auto maintenance. Scheduling an appointment for an annual brake inspection is easy with our new texting line at Mancinelli’s. You can s ... read more

Most wiper blade manufacturers recommend changing your blades every 6 months to a year, but it really depends on what the conditions are that you put your car through. Colorado’s four seasons offer many changes for your car to experience with our sun and dry climate being pretty harsh on those blades. Winter can be especially rough, and we usually recommend a winter blade to help keep us safe. There might be damage on your blades from those times that you tried to remove the ice from your windshield, or even damage to your wiper motor. Over time, wiper blades become hard and lose their flexibility as they start to tear. Torn wipers can even scratch your windshield. As we enter into Spring, think about replacing your wiper blades as preventative maintenance that can save you from these expensive damages. At Mancinellis, we can help answer any of your blade concerns and help get you bac ... read more

Do you know your car’s mpg? First and foremost, let’s talk about how to measure your mpg. Sure, most of the newer vehicles tell you with a digital display, but those could be wrong. The best way to get the numbers is by filling up your car to full and resetting your trip counter. The pump needs to cut off in order to hit full. The next time you fill up to full again just simply make a note of the number of gallons you put in, along with the trip counter. Divide these numbers and you will get your mpg. There are lots of online trackers that can help you figure out your averages. The best tip to improving your fuel economy is using a little less of that lead foot. Less braking, avoiding high speeds and trying to moderate your speeds to hit the lights safely can all improve your mpg. Driving at 55 mph instead of 65 or 75 will save you money simply because it takes more fuel to power the car at those speeds. Your tires play a huge factor in mpg. Checking your tire pressures ... read more
